What is Remedial Massage?

Remedial massage essentially does what it says on the tin! It is designed to remedy specific areas that are sore, stressed, tense and painful, through the deep massage and manipulation of muscles. Remedial massage is also good for relief from the mental and physical stresses and strains of modern life, and paradoxically aids sleep at night whilst giving you more energy through the day!

This is a deep but specific form of massage which is typically used to treat or manage chronic muscle aches or pains in areas such as the neck, upper back, lower back, legs and shoulders.

How Does Remedial Massage Work?

When muscles are chronically tight or have been injured there may be scar tissue, trigger points or adhesions in the soft tissue (including muscles, ligaments & tendons), these can place pressure on the surrounding blood vessels which will effect the blood supply which can limit your bodies healing capabilities. These areas of tension can also bring on pain, aching, restrictions to your joints range of motion and even create or increase inflammation.

Deep tissue massage helps to eliminate these muscle tensions by breaking down these areas of soft tissue dysfunction, allowing the body to function and heal more effectively - allowing normal movement and easing of pain and aching.

Is Remedial Massage Painful?

Typically remedial massage is a relaxing and therapeutic experience, however when working over pockets of tension which are already sensitive, this can be tender to work over. However once the tension in the muscles has been released you will feel much better and the pain and discomfort you were previously experiencing should start to lift.

On occasion there may be some level of stiffness or pain after a remedial massage, however this usually doesn't last more than 24-48 hours.
